The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Lester Herrick (ASN: 1213991), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company C, 108th Infantry Regiment, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, east of Ronssoy, France, 29 September 1918. During the operations against the Hindenburg line Private Herrick exhibited great courage and bravery by advancing alone against two enemy machine-gun positions, putting both of them put of action. In accomplishing this he was seriously wounded.
