The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Harry J. Harbison (ASN: 54801), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, west of Berzy-le-Sec, France, 20 July 1918. Although severely wounded in the leg by machine-gun fire, Private Harbison refused to go to the rear, bandaged his own wound, and advanced with his platoon until its final objective was reached.
