The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Ervin Hamric (ASN: 1553834), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company D, 8th Machine-Gun Battalion, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Cunel, France, 6 October 1918. Private Hamric carried numerous messages over routes exposed to artillery and machine-gun fire from company headquarters to the front-line platoons. The individual efforts of this soldier in delivering messages when exposed to enemy fire were of great value to his company commander.
