The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Wagoner Edmund R. Hampson (ASN: 108815), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 101st Machine-Gun Battalion, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Trugny, France, 22 July 1918. Although painfully wounded by shrapnel, Wagoner Hampson courageously continued his duty of evacuating the wounded until exhausted from loss of blood.
