The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Eustis Bernard Grimes, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Marcheville, France, 26 September 1918. During a violent enemy bombardment Lieutenant Grimes advanced with his detachment under intense machine-gun fire, wiped out a machine-gun nest, and captured the gun, which had been harassing the right of our line. He displayed exceptional bravery and resourcefulness throughout the entire engagement.
