The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Donald W. Green, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 167th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, northeast of Chateau-Thierry, France, July 26 to 1 August 1918. Second Lieutenant Green set an example of heroism and devotion to duty at Coix Rouge Farm, when he continued to lead his platoon through heavy fire for five days after being wounded.
