    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Alexander Gosselin (ASN: 198539), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 2d Field Signal Battalion, 1st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Exermont, France, 4 October 1918. After finishing the work of laying telephone lines on high ground under heavy artillery fire and direct observation of the enemy, Sergeant Gosselin ordered his men to shelter and remained behind to repair breaks caused by the shelling. He was killed a few minutes later by the explosion of a shell.
