The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Frederick R. Garrison (ASN: 89013), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 165th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Meurcy Farm, near Villers-sur-Fere, France, 29 July 1918. Leading his platoon against an enemy machine-gun nest Sergeant Garrison, with only four men of his platoon remaining when he reached the guns, captured seven prisoners and two machine guns. Although twice wounded, he remained with his organization until its relief.
