The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal John L. Flynn (ASN: 2058791), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Consenvoye, France, 9 October 1918. Upon his own initiative Corporal Flynn advanced by short rushes under machine-gun and sniper fire to a point from which he successfully bombed and silenced an enemy machine-gun sniper who was holding up the advance of his company.
