The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Joseph H. Fahey (ASN: 2414738), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 311th Infantry Regiment, 78th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Vieville-en-Haye, France, 26 September 1918. Sergeant Fahey made three attempts to silence several machine-guns which had held up his platoon. He retired only after he had been wounded and his companions killed or wounded.
