The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Charles G. Brownville (ASN: 2903), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 103d Infantry Regiment (Attached), 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, east of Belleau, France, 20 and 22 July 1918. On 20 July and again on 22 July Private Brownville was conspicuous for his unfailing assistance to wounded under heavy fire of machine guns and his absolute fearlessness.
