The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Sergeant Vincil E. Brown (ASN: 2382491), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 60th Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near St. Mihiel, France, 16 September 1918. Seeing a comrade lying wounded and exposed to great danger of machine-gun and shell fire, Sergeant Brown went to his aid; and, after rescuing him, carried him through the sweeping barrage to the first aid station, a distance of one-half kilometer.
