The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal George Wells Batson (ASN: 1309986), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 118th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Bellicourt, France, 26 September 1918. With absolute disregard for his personal safety Corporal Batson went 300 yards beyond the front line, in full view of the enemy and under heavy machine-gun fire, and brought back a wounded soldier.
