The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Ivan Y. Bailey (ASN: 2257549), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 361st Infantry Regiment, 91st Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Gesnes, France, 10 October 1918. While on a liaison patrol Private Bailey and Corporal Carl G. Theobald attacked and captured a hostile machine-gun nest and its entire crew. Private Bailey then took the prisoners across “No Man’s Land” to our lines under machine-gun fire.
