    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Private Leslie T. Gilbert (MCSN: 91500), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 55th Company, 5th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Blanc Mont Ridge, France, 4 October 1918. Private Gilbert volunteered to rescue a comrade from a most violent barrage. Although severely wounded while performing this courageous deed, he continued until his task was accomplished.
