The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Charles Samuel Gibson (MCSN: 88250), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the Eighty-Second Company, Sixth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F., in action near Bayonville, France, 1 November 1918. Private Gibson volunteered and went forward to reconnoiter a ravine which was infested with hostile machine-gun and artillery positions, returning with several prisoners.
