The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Curtis L. Wood, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the American Expeditionary Force in France during World War I. Private Wood saved the life of a lieutenant who had been shot in the jaw and who was lying in a shell hole. He went in under machine gun fire and brought him to safety.
