The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal John Bassosky, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Montfaucon, France. On the morning of 26 September 1918, Corporal Bassosky received a shrapnel wound in the hand and was sent to a dressing station. He refused to be evacuated and re-joined his company, going forward with them until again wounded on 29 September, at which time it was necessary for him to be evacuated.
