Headquarters, 79th Division, General Orders No. 29 (May 8, 1919)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Earl A. Adams, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 28 September 1918, near Montfaucon, France. While going forward with his company, Corporal Adams was badly gassed and sent to a dressing station. At the dressing station Corporal Adams was tagged for evacuation to a base hospital. Corporal Adams refused to be evacuated, tearing off his tag. Rejoining his company, he did exceptionally good work in encouraging and keeping up the morale of the men during the drive.
