By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Christopher M. Ott, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Lieutenant Ott displayed exceptional heroism at Le Rocq Farm, France, 14 – 15 July 1918. While acting as Liaison Officer with the 7th Infantry, he carried important messages between the Infantry and his own Regimental Headquarters under heavy enemy fire, by his efforts enabling the artillery to direct their fire most advantageously. Owing to the fact that all available horses were killed it was necessary for him to carry messages a distance of four kilometers on foot.
