By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Second Lieutenant (Infantry) William E. Frasure, United States Army, is cited for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Frasure distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Cunel, France, 14 October 1918. Lieutenant Frasure was rendered unconscious from the concussion of a high-explosive shell that hit within a few feet of him. After regaining consciousness and in a dazed condition he rejoined his company, taking command and succeeded in making further advances, capturing a number of prisoners, including two officers. The number of prisoners captured was greater than the number of his command.
