The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Vice Admiral (Retired) John Wills Greenslade (NSN: 0-2969), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States during the period 9 February 1944 to 31 August 1945 in organizing the Office of the Pacific Coast Coordinator of Naval Logistics, which subsequently became the Office of Resources Coordinator on the staff of Commander Western Sea Frontier, and in establishing the Pacific Coast Joint Committees for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair and for Ship Operations.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Vice Admiral John Wills Greenslade (NSN: 0-2969), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Commander, Western Sea Frontier. Admiral Greenslade displayed the highest qualities of leadership, judgment and planning in creating an organization to administer the routing and dispatching of convoys and independent sailings from the Western Sea Frontier, and in the initiation and administration of the necessary wartime procedures to most effectively employ available facilities in order to provide services to the Fleet in furthering their efforts against the enemy in the Pacific.
