The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Peyton Conway March, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Astor Battery, before Manila, Philippine Islands, 13 August 1898. Lieutenant March gallantly led a charge on the enemy’s breastworks, volunteers having been called for by the brigadier general commanding.
