The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Armor) Edwin Alexander McCluer, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 344th Tank Battalion, Tank Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, near Boise de Montrebeau, France, 28 September 1918. In the attack on the woods, Lieutenant McCluer led his tank patrol on foot through dense wooded territory and in the face of intense fire. He was two kilometers in advance of the infantry front line during this exploit.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Second Lieutenant (Armor) Edwin Alexander McCluer, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 344th Tank Battalion, Tank Corps, American Expeditionary Forces, near Jonville, France, 14 September 1918. Commanding a reconnaissance patrol of three tanks, Lieutenant McCluer put to rout a company of German infantry, four pieces of artillery and destroyed eight machine guns. His action was eight kilometers in advance of our front lines.
