The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major (Infantry) Parker Cromwell Kalloch, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 137th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, north of Montrebeau Woods, France, 29 September 1918. Major Kalloch, although wounded, and scarcely able to walk, personally organized and led an attack against a superior force at Exermont in the face of heavy artillery and intense machine-gun fire. His extraordinary courage and utter disregard for personal safety were an inspiration to his entire command.
