By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Captain (Infantry) Ewart Johnston, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Captain Johnston distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 116th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near the Consenvoye Woods, France, 8 October 1918, and by his brilliant leadership. [This award was rescinded under GHQ, American Expeditionary Forces, Citation Orders No. 10 (August 31, 1920) as the recipient has been awarded a Distinguished Service Cross for deed including this act.]
