The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Edgar A. Jennings (ASN: 263921), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 125th Infantry Regiment, 32d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Cierges, France, 31 July 1918. First Lieutenant Jennings displayed marked bravery during an attack by his company, and when liaison with adjoining units had been lost, volunteered repeatedly for dangerous missions, he being a sergeant at the time. He exposed himself in the open to enemy machine-gun fire to rescue wounded soldiers, and reorganized the company after heavy casualties had been sustained.
