By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), First Sergeant David F. Jardine (ASN: 547434), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company I, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, First Sergeant Jardine was placed in command of a platoon, when its leader was wounded in the bombardment of Bois d’Aigremont. With great courage and coolness he led it to the proper place through the violent barrage, and maintained leadership over it with bravery, devotion and ability throughout the battle of 15 to 26 July 1918.
