The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private George R. Hutson (ASN: 1550465), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Le Channel, France, 28 July 1918. After he, himself, his commanding officer, and 32 comrades had been wounded by a bomb from an enemy plane, Private Hutson remained at his post, assisted in laying his piece, and directing fire on the enemy.

Hutson (ASN: 1550465), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Battery B, 76th Field Artillery Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Hutson showed extraordinary heroism in battle on 28 July 1918, near Le Charmel, France, in remaining at his post and assisting to lay his piece and carry on fire although he had been wounded and had seen his Captain and 32 other members of the battery wounded by a bomb from an enemy airplane.
