The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Field Artillery) Francis Robert Hunter, United States Army, for gallantry and efficiency as Commander of the 2d Battalion, 76th Field Artillery during the attack 14 – 15 July 1918, at La Trinite Ferme, France. He rendered distinguished services in maintaining the supply of ammunition and continuing the fire from his batteries in spit of intense enemy bombardment. In the advance he displayed supreme military skill and bravery at Tuilerie Farm, 24 July 1918, at Le Charmel 27 July 1918, and at Roncheres 31 July 1918. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Hunter, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
