The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Private Daniel Conrad Henry (ASN: 545592), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Chateau-Thierry, France, 15 July 1918. After many other runners had been killed or wounded, Private Henry carried several messages from platoon to company headquarters. At this time the enemy had crossed the Marne River, and the route followed by Private Henry was exposed to heavy artillery and machine-gun fire.

Henry (ASN: 545592), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company B, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, at Mezy, France, on 15 July 1918, Sergeant Henry voluntarily carried messages under heavy shell and machine gun fire, and by his success in this mission aided greatly in the advance.
