The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private Clark S. Hazlett (ASN: 1391468), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 132d Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Brieulles, France, 10 October 1918. On hearing the call for aid by several men who had been hit by shellfire, Private Hazlett rushed to their aid and, although exposed to heavy artillery and machine-gun fire, he applied first aid to the wounded men. While in the act of placing the wounded on litters, he was killed.
