The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Private Charles S. Gibson (MCSN: 88250), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving with the 82d Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. in action near Bayonville, France, 1 November 1918. Private Gibson volunteered and went forward to reconnoiter a ravine which was infested with hostile machine-gun and artillery positions, returning with several prisoners.
