McCaferty (ASN: 2225592), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private McCaferty distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 140th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Exermont, France, 28 September 1918, in cutting lanes in wire entanglements in the face of heavy artillery and machine gun fire.
