No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Donald Hitchcock (ASN: 3350), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Private Hitchcock distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the Sanitary Detachment, 140th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, in action near Trugny, France, 22 – 23 July 1918, in remaining with thirteen wounded comrades under heavy enemy fire until help arrived.
