The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Third Class Delbert T. Faw, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of the 76th Transportation Company (Medium) Truck, near Orleans, France on 25 March 1958. Observing an M-52 tractor and trailer-van jack-knife, skid off the highway, turn over and catch fire approximately 12 miles from Orleans, Specialist Faw immediately parked the wrecker he was driving and ran to the accident to render assistance. Upon arrival at the scene he found the overturned vehicle enveloped with flames and the injured driver trapped in the cab of the burning truck. Without hesitation or regard for his own personal safety, he obtained a knife, slashed the canvas top of the cab and pulled the injured man from the flaming wreck. The prompt and courageous action of Specialist Faw saved the life of the trapped victim and reflects the utmost credit on himself and the military service.
