The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Specialist Second Class Alan L. Agar, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of the Aviation Detachment, Headquarters United States Army, Europe, at the Army Airfield, Heidelberg, Germany, on 5 August 1957. While on duty in the Technical Supply Office, Specialist Agar responded to a fire alarm and observed a 1,200Ðgallon aviation fuel tanker ablaze. The burning tanker was parked between two other similar sized tankers filled with high octane aviation fuel.
