The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Master Specialist Saverio A. Fiore, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of the United States Army Field Band, Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, on 22 August 1956, at Wiers Pier, Lake Wiers, New Hampshire. Without hesitation, and with complete disregard for his own personal safety, Master Specialist Fiore risked his life by jumping fully dressed into deep water dangerously charged by a damaged cable and rescuing two persons. The bravery and unselfishness displayed by his quick thinking and heroic action reflect the utmost credit on himself and the military service.
