The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Master Sergeant Kenneth M. Brown, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of the 408th Supply and Transportation Company, 11th Airborne Division, on 14 March 1957, at Sheridan Kaserne, Germany. Upon discovering a white phosphorus grenade burning on a stack of boxes containing live 60-mm mortar white phosphorus shells and seeing that these boxes were on fire, Sergeant Brown, without hesitation or concern for his own personal safety, took immediate and appropriate action to extinguish the flames. Sergeant Brown’s courageous action prevented loss of life and property. His bravery and risking his life in this hazardous situation reflects the utmost credit on himself and the military service.
