Captain Simpson distinguished himself by exceptional courage and skill in breaking up a panzer attack in the Ardennes Forest during the Battle of the Bulge. Captain Simpson conducted several passes at a target after his fighter had been hopelessly crippled, continuing to engage the enemy until he was shot down. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Simpson, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
