The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Francis Roy McAllister (ASN: US-54931967), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Private First Class McAllister distinguished himself by heroic actions on 21 March 1969, while serving with Company A, 2d Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in the Republic of Vietnam. While on an ambush patrol, Company A came in contact with a large enemy force. Learning that a member of one of the listening posts outside the company’s perimeter had become wounded, Private McAllister immediately began to move through the bullet swept area to aid the injured man, but was wounded himself by a rocket propelled grenade. Ignoring his painful injuries, Private McAllister fearlessly continued on and evacuated his fallen comrade to safety. Private McAllister again made the perilous trip through the enemy kill zone as he moved back to the abandoned LP and secured a radio that had been left behind. His valorous actions were responsible for saving a man’s life. Private McAllister’s personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
