The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major Lyle Edmond Delfosse (AFSN: FV-3024379), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight over Southeast Asia from 15 July 1966 to 1 August 1966. During this period, while flying as Forward Air Controller in support of United States Marine Corps forces in Operation HASTINGS, Major Delfosse displayed superior airmanship and courage while uncovering and destroying hostile gun emplacements. During his many reconnaissance flights, he repeatedly presented his aircraft as a target to hostile gunners. The outstanding heroism and devotion to duty displayed by Major Delfosse reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Lyle Edmond Delfosse (AFSN: FV-3024379), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with the 20th Tactical Air Support Squadron near Xom Nien, Republic of Vietnam, on 3 March 1966. On that date, Captain Delfosse, flying a light O-1E observation aircraft as a Forward Air Controller, provided the sole air support to an ARVN force under heavy assault by hostile forces. For over four hours Captain Delfosse provided vital intelligence, communications and artillery adjustment despite intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire which damaged his aircraft. Even when he was dangerously low on fuel, Captain Delfosse placed the tactical situation requirements above his own safety in order to pass vital information to the pilot relieving him. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Delfosse has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
