(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Airman Ernest Edward Thurston, United States Air Force, was awarded the Airman’s Medal for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Tampa, Florida, on 7 January 1972. On that date, with complete disregard for his own safety, Airman Thurston rescued a man with third-degree burns from the front porch of a house engulfed in flames. He then unhesitatingly entered the burning house to bring two other men out to safety. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Airman Thurston has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
