The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Captain Peter Gibney Moriarty (AFSN: FR-3133647), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Tactical Fighter Pilot near Dak Pek, Republic of Vietnam, on 4 March 1971. On that date, Captain Moriarty exposed himself to hostile ground fire on eight separate low altitude ordnance delivery passes in an effort to break a concerted hostile attack on an allied position. His aggressive attack, in complete disregard for his own personal safety, succeeded in blunting the hostile attack. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Moriarty reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
