James Rippin graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of January 1943. During the Korean War, on November 13, 1950, he was returning from a combat mission when his T-33A Shooting Star ran out of fuel and crashed, killing him.

His actions on all these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
