(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Riley Smith King (ASN: 0-24026), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving on the Regimental Staff of an Infantry Regiment of the 29th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in France, in July 1944. Captain King led a 2-man patrol that brought rations and supplies to an Infantry Battalion that had been cut off and lost at St. Lo. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain King, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
