    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain (Corps of Engineers) Edwin Lloyd Powell, Jr. (ASN: 0-23689), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of an Engineer Company of the 16th Engineer Combat Battalion, attached to the 1st Armored Division, in action against the enemy in Tunisia, in the North Africa Theater of Operations, on 17 February 1943. Captain Powell carried out a dangerous mission, under heavy enemy fire, on the Thelepte Airfield. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Powell, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
