The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Cyril Meyer (ASN: 35127922), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 329th Infantry Regiment, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 March 1945, at Neuss, Germany. Private Meyer was acting as radio operator for the forward observer with Company I. In the advance, Company I met heavy flat trajectory 20-mm. anti-aircraft artillery fire at a ranger of 150 yards which temporarily pinned the company down. Private Meyer retarded in weight with a 300 radio, attempted to move across open terrain in the forward observer’s position. In so doing he was fatally wounded by the intense fire. His conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States.
