United States Military Academy Register of Graduates

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain Merwin Lamphrey Morrill, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force as an F-105 Thunderchief Pilot of the 354th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, in action over North Vietnam on 21 August 1967. On that date, Captain Morrill was a member of a flight of fighter-bombers that struck and heavily damaged one of the largest railroad yards in North Vietnam. With complete disregard for the most awesome defenses ever encountered in the history of aerial warfare, Captain Morrill courageously chose to continue his attack. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Morrill has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
