The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Richard E. Bohn, United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy as a member of Company A, 28th Infantry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado, on 18 February 1955. While engaged in throwing live hand grenades as a part of regular training at Fort Carson, a soldier dropped an armed grenade. Without considering his own safety Corporal Bohn immediately picked up the grenade, threw it to a point where it exploded harmlessly, and he pulled the other soldier to a place of safety. Corporal Bohn’s quick thinking, selfless exposure to certain death, and initiative reflect the highest credit on himself and his unit and are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service.
